L039-OMÁN PETROLERO LLAMAS
Eyewitness video showed thick black smoke rising from a vessel at sea following reports of an attack on an oil tanker on Sunday (October 11).
Reuters confirmed the identity of the vessel as the Petro Dolphin from the vessel name, mast, stack, and overall outline, which matched archive imagery.
The location could not be verified, however, the last known position reported by tracking data placed the ship near Oman in the Strait of Hormuz area on May 7, 2026.
The date of the video was verified by India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which confirmed in a statement that the Petro Dolphin was attacked on October 11 in the Strait of Hormuz region.
No earlier versions of the footage were found online prior to October 11.
More attacks on tankers sailing through the Strait of Hormuz have been reported this month, threatening to dampen a recovery in Middle East crude exports seen in September.
