L036-UCRANIA ZELENSKI CRITICA PUTIN POR ROMPER ALTO FUEGO
Russia has violated an energy ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday (October 12), urging Washington to step in to ensure that Moscow abided by the terms of the putative agreement.
Zelenskiy said Russian President Vladimir Putin did not read Trump's Truth Social post declaring the deal, as Russia "launched a targeted strike on a power plant" soon after.
Trump made the surprise announcement of an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine on Sunday (October 11) and that it was "effective immediately," but Zelenskiy said he was still waiting to see details of the deal.
There was no word from Moscow on the ceasefire announcement, which followed days of intense pressure from Trump for Ukraine to halt its attacks on Russian oil refineries.
He blames those strikes for a rise in diesel prices that is hurting his Republican Party ahead of US midterm elections next month.
"We need American pressure on Russia, not sanctions relief, not concessions, but real pressure," Zelenskiy told the Warsaw conference.
"An energy ceasefire and other steps to reduce escalation and guarantee security are truly needed here in reality, not just on Truth Social," he said.
