STORY: Firefighters in Greece continued to battle wildfires northwest of Athens on Monday (August 3), where two firefighting helicopters collided in Greece at the weekend and more than 100 homes were destroyed. Throughout the weekend Greek authorities issued emergency alerts for evacuations for a number of villages in western Attica, including Agios Nektarios, Porto Germeno and Psatha, as wildfires fanned by gale-force winds burned across multiple areas, forcing residents to flee. Footage released by the Greek police service on Saturday (August 1) showed police officers rushing door to door in the region, shouting to residents to flee as the fire approached. One police officer is seen carrying a goat from a yard. At least eight police vehicles and six teams of police officers on motorbike drove from village to village in the area honking horns and checking each home for trapped residents or alerting them to evacuate.
