L008-ALEMANIA HOSPITAL EVACUADOS CRUCERO
Several German nationals who were aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship during a hantavirus outbreak were being quarantined at Frankfurt University Hospital on Monday (May 11) after being flown home via a Dutch evacuation flight.
The cruise ship arrived early Sunday (May 10) near the Port of Granadilla in Tenerife, where it anchored to allow for the evacuation of passengers and some crew.
Eight people no longer on the MV Hondius have fallen ill, according to a World Health Organization tally from Friday, of which six are confirmed to have contracted the virus. Three deaths have been linked to the outbreak, including a Dutch couple from Friesland and a 65-year-old German woman.
All passengers on the MV Hondius are considered high-risk contacts as a precautionary measure, with the WHO recommending a quarantine period of up to 42 days.
