L007-EEUU RESUMEN ATENTADO DONALD TRUMP
: A guest at the White House Correspondents Dinner remained seated and continued to eat his dinner, as shots rang out in the venue on Saturday (April 25).
The guest, who was identified by the New York Times as Creative Artists Agency agent, Michael Glantz, appeared to be unfazed by the unfurling drama and took a bite from his plate, as security personnel moved in to secure the ballroom at the Washington Hilton.
Saturday's shooting occurred at the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner at the Washington Hilton, where some 2,600 journalists and their guests had gathered for the traditional gala event that Trump was headlining.
The shooting raises fresh questions about Trump's security arrangements after he was previously targeted by two assassination attempts during the 2024 presidential campaign.
Officials said the suspect charged a Secret Service checkpoint armed with a shotgun, handgun and multiple knives before being tackled and arrested, though he managed to wound an agent who was saved by his bulletproof vest.

"Well first of all I know that a lot of things were happening recently, so I knew there was high tension. Obviously it's very weird when it's across the street from you. But I know a lot of people were saying it was a hoax. A lot of people, it seems both sides, some people were happy that it happened, which is always disturbing to hear but, I don't know. It's just more reinforcement that it's a scary time."
13. (SOUNDBITE) (English) 27-YEAR-OLD DC RESIDENT WHO LIVES IN THE AREA, WILLIAM FRANK, SAYING:
"I mean, this neighborhood is not like I guess known for that (being a high crime area) as far as D.C. neighborhoods go - I think like the Obamas have a house not too far from there, so it's a pretty normally a safe neighborhood, but it's still D.C. and there's obviously things like this have happened recently with this president. So I guess it's not terribly shocking."

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday (April 26) said on Fox News that the suspect in the shooting at Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington is a "sick guy" full of hatred for Christians.
Trump also confirmed that a planned visit to the United States by Britain’s King Charles would go ahead.

"Well, they have some pretty good information. He had a lot of hatred in his heart for quite a while. And he just, I don't know, he just... It was a religious thing. It was strongly anti-Christian. And I don't know if you've gotten it, just got released, a manifesto, can you believe it? And so he's got some big problems with the rest of his life. But his family knew that... he had difficulty, and his family seemed to agree. I think they spent a lot of time with his family. His family said he had big difficulty. Maybe they should have reported him a little bit more strongly, probably. But it's a hard thing to do, I guess.”

He's got a problem with, as you know that's really well documented, a problem with his health."

The Secret Service did an effective job of stopping a shooter at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington DC on Saturday (April 25) night, an analyst told Reuters on Sunday (April 26), with concentric layers of security preventing him from getting close to U.S. President Donald Trump.

“And I think that last night's security plan went according to the way it was supposed to. Again, I don't think that he [Donald Trump] was ever in any imminent danger and I think that the men and women of the Secret Service did a very good job at addressing his [the suspect’s] erratic behavior. If you watch the video, you can see as he's approaching at a rapid pace, the officer that is in uniform is the first to draw his weapon. He sees something coming at him, but that happens so fast. You know, I've seen and I've been watching, you know, comments online and people were saying, ‘Well, how did he get past the checkpoint’? Well, did you see how fast he was running? You know, the officers and the agents have literally split seconds to determine if this guy is a threat or not. They may not have been able to determine if he was a threat outside of just the speed in which he was moving, if he had a weapon, if he didn't have a weapon. And so, you know, again. I think that the plan worked. The concentric layers of security worked last night.”
U.S. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche posted a letter from the Department of Justice on Sunday (April 26) insisting that a lawsuit preventing the construction of Donald Trump’s proposed White House ballroom be dropped for security reasons after a shooting incident Saturday at an event Trump was attending.

National Park Service, No. 26-5101 (D.D.C.) / Dear Mr. Craig: / Last night, there was another attempt on President Trump’s life. This time, the shooter targeted President Trump at the Washington Hilton, the only ballroom in Washington D.C. suitable to host large gatherings for the President, where another shooter targeted President Reagan 45 years ago. As history proves, that venue is demonstrably unsafe for the President of the United States because its size presents extraordinary security challenges for the Secret Service.”

“Yesterday’s assassination attempt on President Trump proves, yet again that the White House ballroom is essential for the safety and security of the President, his family, his cabinet, and his staff. When the White House Ballroom is complete, President Trump and his successors will no longer need to venture beyond the safety of the White House perimeter to attend large gatherings at the White House Hilton ballroom. The White House ballroom will ensure safety and…”

“Put simply, your lawsuit puts the lives of the President, his family, and his staff at grave risk. I hope yesterday’s narrow miss will help you finally realize the folly of a lawsuit that literally serves no purpose except to stop President Trump no matter the cost.”

“Enough is enough. Your client should voluntarily dismiss this frivolous lawsuit today in light of last night’s assassination attempt on President Trump. If your client does not dismiss the lawsuit by 9:00 AM on Monday, the government will move to dissolve the injunction and dismiss the case in light of last night’s extraordinary events. We will state your position as opposed if we do not hear back from you by 9:00 AM on Monday.”

Again, our daughter does physical or speech therapy this week. Next to it is where he was teaching at the educational center. And again, just, it's just so unreal to know that this is right here down the street, incorporated in our daily lives and not knowing if we could have passed him in you know, in the grocery store or something. And just to go to this kind of extreme, it's unreal, honestly, it's so surreal.”
