STORY: Eyewitness video on Sunday (September 28) showed a church in Grand Blanc, Michigan, on fire, after a man who crashed his vehicle through the front doors of the building opened fire with an assault rifle and set the church ablaze.
Reuters was able to verify the location by building characteristics and window panels matching file imagery as well as original file metadata from source which shows GPS coordinates. Date of the video was verified by original file metadata from source.
The perpetrator killed at least four people and wounded at least eight before dying in a shoot out with police, officials said.
The man was identified as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, a former U.S. Marine from the nearby town of Burton, police said.
