Israeli airstrikes on multiple locations across the Gaza Strip since early Sunday have killed 62 people, with 49 of the deaths occurring in northern Gaza and Gaza City, according to a statement from Gaza-based health authorities.
Among the sites hit was a school in Gaza City that had been sheltering displaced people, resulting in the deaths of eight persons – four women and four children.
As of Sunday, the Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip had risen to 64,455, with 162,776 others injured since the conflict between Hamas and Israel erupted on October 7, 2023, said the statement.
The Israeli military also issued a statement on Sunday claiming it had destroyed "a hundreds-of-meters-long underground tunnel" in northern Gaza that it said was used by Hamas for "operations against Israeli forces". An Israeli military spokesperson also issued evacuation orders on the same day for residents of a building and surrounding tents in Gaza City.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli military said two rockets had been fired from Gaza toward southern Israel, with one intercepted and the other landing in an open area without causing casualties or damage.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad group claimed responsibility for the rocket attack, saying it had launched two rockets at the southern Israeli city of Netivot.
Also on Sunday, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks with visiting Jordanian King Abdullah II in Abu Dhabi. Both leaders reiterated their firm support for Palestinian rights and opposition to any Israeli actions that violate Palestinian lands or threaten regional stability, according to the Emirates News Agency.
The two leaders emphasized that the international community should continue working toward a just and comprehensive regional peace based on the two-state solution. They reaffirmed their rejection of Israel's plans to annex West Bank land, expand settlements, and displace Palestinians, while also rejecting any Israeli statements or positions that threaten the sovereignty of regional states.
