U.S. President Donald Trump departed for Washington DC on Sunday (January 04), leaving Florida after overseeing a military operation against Venezuela and the seizure of the country’s president from his Mar-a-Lago estate there.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is in a New York detention center awaiting a Monday (January 05) court appearance on drug charges. Trump, who went golfing earlier on Sunday, ordered Maduro’s seizure from Venezuela on Saturday and said the U.S. would take control of the country.

But in Caracas, top officials in Maduro's government, who have called the detentions of Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores a kidnapping, were still in charge.
