L005-VENEZUELA PIDEN MAQUINARIA PESADA
Families of earthquake victims in Venezuela's La Guaira pleaded for heavy machinery on Sunday (June 28) as rescue teams and desperate residents continued to clear rubble at collapsed buildings, days after twin earthquakes devastated Venezuela's hardest-hit coastal state.
An unidentified man searching for missing relatives called for support from the authorities.
"We want support; we want heavy machinery," he said. "We have no choice; we don't have help."
Footage showed residents removing debris while other families stood nearby waiting for news. A Mexican rescue team was also seen arriving at one of the collapsed sites to join the search operation.
The death toll from Wednesday's twin earthquakes has neared 1,500 people as foreign rescue teams poured into La Guaira, located about 40 kilometers north of Caracas.
Dozens of buildings collapsed into piles of sand and rubble across the coastal state, which has been among the most severely affected areas of the country.

"We want support; we want heavy machinery. We want to take our family members with us. I’m not the only one in this situation. They’re almost not going to let us in here anymore. They haven’t helped us clear the rubble. In Bloque 22 (apartment building), there are about 300 people, and we’ve managed to recover about 80—both the living and the dead. We have no choice; we don’t have help."
