L005-GAZA HUIDA PALESTINOS
STORY: Palestinians headed southward along a coastal road in central Gaza on Monday (September 22), with belongings loaded onto vehicles, as Israel’s military operation continued in Gaza City.
Israeli forces blew up more residential buildings in Gaza City on Sunday (September 21), killing at least 31 Palestinians and prompting many others to flee, Gazan health authorities said, as Israel's tanks pushed further into the densely populated city.
Nearly two years into the war, Israel describes Gaza City as the last bastion of Hamas and the military has been demolishing housing blocks it says were being used by the militant group since launching its ground assault in the city this month.
The Israeli military estimates over 450,000 people have left Gaza City since September, while Hamas disputes this, claiming fewer than 300,000 have evacuated and around 900,000 remain.
Israel's nearly two-year-long campaign against Hamas has killed more than 65,000 people in Gaza, according to local authorities. It was prompted by the militant group's attack on Israel in October 2023, in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 others taken hostage, according to Israeli figures.
