Madonna kicked off the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards with dance-laden collaborations with Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX.

The “Like a Prayer” and “Hung Up” hitmaker teamed up with Carpenter for “Bring Your Love” from her acclaimed 2026 dance comeback album “Confessions II”.

Also leading the night with thirteen nominations, Madonna followed her opening song with a performance of “Dancetaria Afterhours”, her latest collaboration with hyperpop artist Charli XCX.

Other performers of the ceremony included Raye who marked her VMAs debut with her R&B hit “Where Is My Husband!” and Bruno Mars who performed “Dance with Me” from his latest album “The Romantic”.

BLACKPINK member Lisa who won a VMA for best pop, performed her hit “Sawadika”. With the title translating to “hello” in Thai, the song serves as a tribute to her home country of Thailand.

Meanwhile, country star Kacey Musgraves paid tribute to late country pioneer Dolly Parton with a rendition of her ballad “I Will Always Love You”.

The genre was also represented through the night with Shaboozey performing his country hits “Cowgirl” and “High Noon”, the latter with a guest verse from rapper Gunna.

Another musical tribute was dedicated to late Wham singer and solo artist George Michael with this December marking a decade since his death from heart disease. The performance by Raye, Teddy Swims, Sombr, Adam Lambert, Meek, Saint Harison, and MNEK played out as a medley of Michael’s greatest hits, from “Faith” to “Careless Whisper”.

French DJ Gener8ion closed the night with British rapper Yung Lean to perform their hit collaboration “Storm II” with Lean on stage surrounded by several dancers in school uniforms, on theme with the single’s accompanying viral video directed by Romain Gavras.
