Estocolmo, Suecia

STORY: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday (November 24) that Kyiv would continue to work with its partners on compromises on U.S. peace proposals to strengthen, not weaken, Ukraine.

Speaking via video link at a Crimean Platform summit being held in Sweden, Zelenskiy said Russia must pay for the war in Ukraine and that a decision on using frozen Russian assets was crucial.

The United States and Ukraine were set to continue work on Monday on a plan to end the war with Russia after agreeing to modify an earlier proposal that was widely seen as too favourable to Moscow.

“In the steps we have coordinated with the side of the U.S., we've managed to keep extremely sensitive points on the table, including the full release of all Ukrainian prisoners of war under the all-for-all formula and civilians, and the complete return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia. These are important steps, but to achieve real peace, more, more is needed.”
