Iranian women trained with firearms at a military training centre in Tehran's Imam Hussein Square on Sunday (October 4), as tensions with the United States and Israel persisted.

Iran opened a new centre at Haft-e Tir Square on Saturday (October 3) to prepare civilians to confront US and Israeli forces if they launched a ground attack. It followed the earlier camp at Imam Hussein Square.

Footage from the training centre showed women listening to military officials and instructors, then practising with firearms, including handguns.

A 45-year-old attendee, Raheleh Ghadiri, said knowing how to defend her family and neighbourhood in wartime would ease her fears.

US-Israeli attacks on February 28 set off seven months of conflict. A truce on April 8 ended 40 days of war, but sporadic fighting continued. Sources said Iran was readying a broader and more forceful response if the United States resumed large-scale attacks.

"No, not fear. We don't have any particular fear. But saying that a person has no fear at all is a kind of lie. But if we are prepared, if we know how to confront the enemy in emergency wartime conditions, how to defend our family, how to defend our neighbourhood, and if we can have familiarity with these things, whether it is about weapons or any other area, and have mental preparedness—which is the most important thing—and then acquire the other necessary preparations, certainly after that we will not have that much fear and terror, and it will not come over us."

"The likelihood of further attacks by Israel and the United States is very high. But this time, what we expect is for the range of our missiles to actually reach the United States and Israel. God willing, the destruction of Israel.”

"We are always ready. Indeed, the economic situation is not good; it is true, but the fact that they think that with economic sanctions and air sanctions, we will retreat—no, that is not the case. We are people who are used to difficult days. We are always here, always ready; we stand behind the system, behind our leader, and we strive to make Iran proud once again. In every field. And we would like, if a war is really going to happen this time, for it to be the end of everything, for it to be the defeat of our enemies, and for Iran to be proud, as always.”
