U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday (March 29) negotiations with Iran were going "extremely well," adding that the country is preparing to allow oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One following a trip to Florida, Trump said there was progress in talks.

"I think, out of a sign of respect, 20 boats of oil, big, big boats of oil, going through the Hormuz Strait. And that's taking place starting tomorrow morning," he said.

Trump's remarks follow his statement on Thursday (March 26), where he noted that Iran was permitting 10 oil tankers to transit the key global oil artery as a goodwill gesture amid ongoing negotiations.

Trump's comments came as he pressed Iran to agree to a deal that would clear the maritime chokepoint and end its nuclear program.

The U.S. president on Tuesday (March 24) had baffled some observers when he said that Iran had given the United States an expensive, energy-related concession. At the time, he declined to say what exactly he meant.
