Provincia de Guizhou, China

STORY: The world's tallest bridge opened to traffic on Sunday (September 28) in China's southwestern Guizhou Province, state broadcast CCTV reported.

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, which rises 625 metres (2,050 feet) above the Beipan River and stretches 2,890 metres (1.8 miles) across the canyon, took more than three years to complete, CCTV reported.

It also features a main span of 1,420 metres (4,659 feet), making it the largest bridge span ever built in a mountainous area, according to the report.

As part of the Liuzhi-Anlong highway, the bridge will shorten the driving time between Zhenfeng county and Guanling county, which are located on either side of the canyon, from two hours to about two minutes, CCTV added.
