Firefighters gathered at a command post in Gironde area, in France on Monday (July 27), where 42,000 hectares have been burnt and tens of thousands evacuated.

Fire emergency vehicles were stationed at the command post, with crews continuously arriving and departing as operations continued.

Since the wildfires erupted earlier this week, approximately 197,000 people have been evacuated from the Gironde and Landes departments near Bordeaux. Across France, the total number of evacuees has reached around 220,000.

President Emmanuel Macron's government will discuss the wildfires situation at a cabinet meeting on Monday.

So far in July, high temperatures have averaged 32.2 degrees Celsius (90.0 degrees Fahrenheit) in the Aquitaine region, which is 7.3 C above the month's normal high between 1961 and 1990, according to Reuters Climate Monitor.
