STORY: Concerns grew on Monday (April 20) that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran might not hold after the U.S. said it had seized an Iranian cargo ship that tried to run its blockade and Iran vowed to retaliate.

A video released by the U.S. Central Command on social media platform X showed what it said were Marines rappelled onto and seizing the Iranian-flagged cargo ship M/V Touska. Reuters was not able to verify the location and the date of the footage. No older version of the video was found posted online before April 20.

The U.S. military said earlier it fired on an Iranian-flagged cargo ship headed towards Iran's Bandar Abbas port on Sunday (April 19) after a six-hour standoff, disabling its engines.

Iran's military said the ship had been traveling from China. "We warn that the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will soon respond and retaliate against this armed piracy by the U.S. military," a military spokesperson said, according to state media.
