J606-ESTADOS UNIDOS PROTESTAS LOS ANGELES

Los Ángeles

STORY: Arrested anti-ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) protesters in Los Angeles were herded into police buses after having their particulars taken down on Wednesday (June 11), as a curfew kicked in for the downtown area.

The sixth day of protests have been largely peaceful but was occasionally punctuated by violence.

The protests first broke out last Friday (June 6) in response to a series of immigration raids by the Trump Administration, which has also called in the National Guard and U.S. Marines to help protect federal property and personnel.

State and local leaders dispute the call, saying U.S. President Donald Trump has only escalated tensions with an unnecessary and illegal deployment of federal troops, while Democrats nationally have condemned his action as authoritarian.

Trump is carrying out a campaign promise to deport immigrants, employing forceful tactics consistent with the norm-breaking political style that got him elected twice.
