Parisians walked with umbrellas and water bottles near the city’s famed monuments on Thursday (May 28), as a pre-summer heatwave that has already set national record temperatures for the month of May dragged on.
The scorching weather episode has seen temperatures soaring above 30 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit) across the country ahead of the summer. France saw on Tuesday (May 26) its hottest day in May ever recorded, according to national weather service Meteo France.
Many of the capital’s residents blamed climate change for the weather phenomenon.
“It's just a question of climate change, so we have to get used to it, and we also have to change how we deal with it more generally, on the political but also on the individual level,” industrial worker Chadrac Loembet said.
Meteo France forecast a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius (91.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in the city on Thursday.

But then it's just a question of climate change, so we have to get used to it, and we also have to change how we deal with it more generally, on the political but also on the individual level, with acts that we could do to preserve the planet. That's what I have to say."
