J072-GRECIA PROTESTAS ESTUDIANTES
Greek university students protested in Athens on Thursday (November 5), the third time in weeks, to keep up their demands for changes to conditions in education and living costs.
Students, gathered outside Athens University, said they cannot afford basic living costs such as rents, school supplies and groceries.
Student unions are demanding further government funding for education and an improvement of services and conditions.
They were supported by high school teachers who also demanded higher salaries as well as better services and conditions in the education sector.
The Greek government has acknowledged student housing costs were putting pressure on households and said projects were underway for new student residences and facilities upgrades.
Greek police kept a watchful eye on the protest which comes as hundreds of thousands of protesters, including students, are expected to demonstrate in France on Thursday, after weeks of unrest over living costs, public services and education.
