A mock execution of US President Donald Trump was held on the streets of Tehran on Wednesday (November 4), following the results of the US midterm elections.

Democrats flipped some Republican strongholds amid anger over the economy and a war that drove up gas prices. Trump acknowledged the US-Israeli war hurt Republicans, as mediators intensified efforts to end the conflict. He declined to rule out renewed combat after the vote, while Iran signalled wider retaliation if fighting resumes.

The US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28; Tehran hit back at Israel and Gulf states hosting US bases.

On Wednesday, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said US hostility will not change with party shifts or concessions, warning any renewed US aggression would face a response "on a much greater scale."
