“I don’t work here; I’m a volunteer. This isn’t my job at all - I’ve never done anything like this before. Back in 2022, I joined the Red Cross rapid response team as a volunteer. First in Mykolaiv, then I came to Kyiv, and I’ve stayed here ever since. I transferred to the Kyiv Rapid Response Team. It’s morning now, and I’ll have to head off to work. I’m a graphic designer and an artist.”

“Mentally, it’s easier now - many years have passed, and we’ve adapted a bit. But, of course, it’s hard. It’s physically hard - the smoke, the dust. It’s still dangerous because of the destruction. We’re trying to establish contact with the State Emergency Service and find common ground.”

“According to reports, there are people under the rubble. We arrived at the scene and first surveyed the neighboring building. Another team went to the building’s entrance to assess whether the State Emergency Service needed assistance with searching for and extracting people. We rescued a woman, approximately 30 years old. She was suspected of having a spinal injury. We applied a cervical collar, secured her using the “Spider” system, and transported her to the ambulance. She is currently in the hospital receiving treatment.”

“The fact is, no matter how well-prepared you are, we always plan, we encounter various situations, and we have to make decisions right on the spot - how we’ll evacuate, the position of the victim, and everything else. We prepare for this and train constantly.”
