Iran on Thursday (May 7) released a video of the seized tanker MSC Francesca, which it claimed to have captured on April 22.

The exact date was not verified but no older version of the footage was found posted online before Thursday.

Iran said it had captured both MSC Francesca and another ship, the Epaminondas, on Wednesday (April 22) accusing them of trying to cross the strait without permits.

Following the capture, Iranian state television broadcast video overnight of masked troops pulling up in a grey speedboat alongside the MSC Francesca, climbing a rope ladder to a door in the hull and jumping through, brandishing rifles.
