Ukraine on Thursday (February 5) received 157 people, both military personnel and civilians, released by Russia, the head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov said on Telegram, noting that 139 of those freed had been in captivity since 2022.

Official video showed a bus carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians. The returning prisoners could be seen celebrating, talking to relatives on the phone and posing with Ukrainian national and military flags.

U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff said that delegations from the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia at talks in Abu Dhabi had agreed to an exchange of 314 prisoners of war, which took place on Thursdayat the Ukrainian border.

"While significant work remains, steps like this demonstrate that sustained diplomatic engagement is delivering tangible results and advancing efforts to end the war in Ukraine," Witkoff said in a post on X, describing the peace talks as "detailed and productive."
