U.S. search and rescue teams from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue scoured the rubble in Venezuela's La Guaira for survivors of last week's twin quakes on Tuesday (June 30) night, deploying K-9 units and specialized equipment across collapsed buildings as hopes of further rescues faded.

Footage released on Wednesday (July 1) showed guard Hernan Alberto Gil, trapped in a Venezuelan mall for over a week, talking to rescuers as they battle to free him from the rubble.
Alberto Gil, 44, is trapped some nine metres (29 feet) underground, according to the Costa Rican Red Cross.

International and Venezuelan rescuers worked on Wednesday (July 1) to save a guard trapped in a Venezuelan mall after twin earthquakes hit the country a week earlier.
Members of the Costa Rican Red Cross identified the guard as Hernan Alberto Gil, who was trapped in the basement of the Galerias Playa Grande mall in Catia la Mar, La Guaira, the worst-hit area.
