J063-REINO UNIDO REACCIONES SEMIFINAL MUNDIAL

16 de julio 2026 - 17:18

Londres, Reino Unido

Londoners felt disappointment on Thursday (July 16) morning, after England suffered yet another World Cup disappointment at the hands of Argentina on Wednesday (July 15) in Atlanta.

After controlling much of the early play in the semifinal and taking a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute, England seemingly went into a shell, attempting to pack the back end and protect its lead while losing the aggressiveness that got it the lead in the first place.

Argentina scored twice in the closing moments of the game, in the 85th and 92nd minutes.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel expressed "no regrets" over the strategy that led them there.

9. (SOUNDBITE) (English) DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH ASSURANCE, ANDREW WEBB, 58, SAYING:

“I’m at a point in time where I'm just waiting for the day when England can actually get through a semifinal and actually get to the point where we can celebrate and actually move forward. And unfortunately, even when we scored, I just felt we just didn't have enough in it. And unfortunately, we didn't have the attacking players to actually take it further forward. And so it was inevitable. They were a very attacking side, Argentina, and as soon as they got one goal back, that was it. And for me in fact, probably there was a part of it was that the pain didn't carry on for another 30 minutes, on the basis that they actually got their winner in the extra time at the end of the 90 minutes. But yes, demoralising as ever. But we go through it and we've got the Europeans (Euro 2028) so we can go again.”

11. (SOUNDBITE) (English) DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH ASSURANCE, ANDREW WEBB, 58, SAYING:

“I’m a proud Englishman. I think really we should have an Englishman in charge of the England team. And although I think he (England manager Thomas Tuchel) did a sterling job actually in the tournament, he made some mistakes, did make some mistakes at the end. But personally I feel we should be looking into the English managers and an English manager taking on the English team.”

12. (SOUNDBITE) (English) DATA PROFESSIONAL, ROSS BAILEY, 50, SAYING:

“Disappointed. My family is half French, half English, so we were expecting an English-French final, so we were like really disappointed.

(REPORTER ASKING: “Do you think Thomas Tuchel should stay?”)

“Yes. Otherwise we're changing England managers like we’re changing prime ministers, crazy.”

13. (SOUNDBITE) (English) POLICE OFFICER, SAM OKEOCHA, 39, SAYING:

“It was disappointing. Where to begin with it really. The tactics were wrong in the end, once we scored. Shouldn’t sit back against a team like Argentina. Yes. It was a disaster, really. And that's exactly what happened. Same thing that happened to Egypt a couple of weeks ago. It's the same. It's the same story. You can't sit back against a team like that. You have to, you have to go out there as well, you have to put pressure on them as well.”

“I think Tuchel needs more time in order to get the team to play a style of football, where this is not necessary. It's not necessary to feel that you have to, that you have to get a goal out, get one goal and grind out a result. We need to be playing football where you get the first goal and you're like, okay, well, let's go on, let's get a second. And it should, it should be as simple as that.”

16. (SOUNDBITE) (English) PR PROFESSIONAL, ELE PRIOR, 30, SAYING:

“I'm a bit disappointed, but I think they did an amazing job.”

“No, no, I think he's great (Tuchel). He's done an amazing job to get us where we got to.”

19. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SINGER, ELLIE BATTEN, 26, SAYING:

“I’m feeling sad. As you can hear, my voice is gone shouting at the television. But I feel sad, but we did well. There's not much I can say, I feel sad.”
