J063-PAKISTAN NEGOCIACIONES PAZ HOTEL
Authorities in Pakistan on Thursday (April 9) locked down a 3-km (2-mile) zone surrounding the Serena Hotel in Islamabad, in anticipation of the first peace talks between the U.S. and Iran following the ceasefire in the Middle East war between U.S., Israel and Iran.
Delegations from both nations are expected to stay at the five-star hotel, which informed all current guests to check out until Sunday (April 12).
Iranian negotiators are set to depart for Pakistan later on Thursday, while formal talks with the U.S. delegation are scheduled to commence on Saturday (April 11).
Pakistan has taken a mediating role in the conflict, but Washington and Tehran remain divided on key negotiating points. The fate of shipping access through the Strait of Hormuz and Israel's war in Lebanon are the key issues to resolve.
