Archive still images showed the Saudi oil tanker Layla, which Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis said they targeted with missiles and drones in the Red Sea.

The identity of the vessel was confirmed as Layla by its structure, colours, and IMO number which matched archive images. Reuters confirmed the location as Rotterdam in the Netherlands by the silos and terrain which matched archive and satellite imagery. Reuters verified the date by the original file metadata.

The Houthis also claimed an attack on the Saudi tanker Encelia, raising fears that the conflict could disrupt shipping through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a key route for global energy supplies.

Reuters could not immediately confirm the reported strike on the Layla.

U.S. President Donald Trump had threatened “major military punishment” against Iran and the Houthis if further attacks were carried out.
