J056-MAR MEDITERRANEO ASALTO A LA FLOTILLA
Surveillance footage shot on Thursday (April 30) showed activists aboard a Gaza-bound aid ship raising their hands as Israeli military intercepted the vessel.
Israel intercepted aid ships bound for Gaza in international waters near Greece, flotilla organisers said on Thursday, decrying the move as an "escalation of Israel's impunity."
The vessels were seized by Israel hundreds of miles from Gaza, said the organizers, Global Sumud Flotilla.
Reuters was not able to verify the location of the footage, but Global Sumud Flotilla’s vessel tracker website shows vessels were intercepted at sea off the coast of Greece. The date was confirmed from the timestamp of the CCTV footage. Israel has begun taking control of aid ships bound for Gaza far from Israeli shores, Israeli army radio cited an Israeli source as saying on Wednesday. Global Sumud Flotilla confirmed in a statement that their vessels began being intercepted by Israeli forces on Wednesday.
