A demonstration with about 30 people took place in front of the Israeli embassy on Thursday (October 2) in Paris, in support for the Global Sumud flotilla which was intercepted on its way to Gaza.

Chanting slogans and holding Palestinian flags, protesters were quickly encircled by police who then took down their details and fined them for taking part in an undeclared protest.

"People from all over the world are trying to take action," one protester said. "We need to put as much pressure on everyone as possible."

Israeli forces have intercepted on Thursday around 40 boats carrying aid and foreign activists bound for Gaza, triggering international condemnation and protests.

Organisers said several boats were "illegally intercepted and boarded" by Israeli forces in international waters.

The boats were about 70 nautical miles off the war-ravaged enclave when they were intercepted, inside a zone that Israel is policing to stop any boats approaching.

Then the officers outside arrested us for no reason, without warning, without explaining the reason for our arrest. And so we were unable to freely express our support for the people of Gaza, our support for Palestine, which has been recognized by President Emmanuel Macron. But clearly, displaying a Palestinian flag poses a problem in a country that recognizes the State of Palestine, which is a huge paradox."
