J049-LIBANO ATAQUE ISRAELI
Members of the Lebanese army inspected damage in Abbassiyeh, in southern Lebanon's Tyre district, on Thursday (November 6), following Israeli strikes that killed one person and injured three others, according to Lebanon's health ministry.
Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee wrote on X that the IDF attacked the Tyre area, targeting Hezbollah operatives working within a "terrorist infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah's construction unit".
Later on Thursday, the Israeli military carried out heavy airstrikes on southern Lebanon after issuing evacuation orders for three locations, saying Lebanese armed group Hezbollah was trying to rebuild its military capabilities there.
The orders and strikes came despite a ceasefire deal agreed last year that was meant to end more than a year of fighting between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah, and after months of the Lebanese army clearing Hezbollah sites in the south.
While Israel has carried out frequent strikes targeting what it says are Hezbollah military sites and group members in southern Lebanon over the past year, they have rarely come with evacuation orders.
Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian told reporters on Thursday that Israel would continue defending its borders while insisting on "full enforcement" of the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon.
Bedrosian said Israel will not allow Hezbollah to rearm or recover the military strength that was shattered by Israel's ground and air war in 2023-24.
Hezbollah said on Thursday it was committed to the ceasefire but retained a "legitimate right" to resist Israel. It has not fired on Israel since the truce came into force last year.
The evacuation warnings coincided with a meeting of Lebanon's cabinet to hear an update from army commander Rodolphe Haykal on progress in confiscating Hezbollah arms depots in southern Lebanon.

For heaven's sake: chairs, tables, doors, windows, railings. What does he make? That's the blacksmith’s job. They hit all of us. Praise be to God, brother - praise be to God. Our houses are gone, no problem. We said 'at least the shop is left, it can make up for some of it'. Now the shop is gone - praise be to God - we're at zero, below zero. No problem."
