Actor Angelina Jolie has revealed her scars from her preventative mastectomy in a photo in the maiden issue of Time France magazine.

Jolie, who is the cover star for the magazine's first French edition, underwent a double mastectomy in 2013 after learning she had inherited a high risk of breast cancer. In 2015, she also had surgery to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed to avoid the risk of ovarian cancer.

"I share these scars with many women I love. And I'm always moved when I see other women share theirs," she said when asked about revealing her mastectomy scars in an interview with Time France. "I wanted to join them, knowing that TIME France would be sharing information about breast health, prevention, and knowledge about breast cancer."

The 50-year-old actor also spoke about her film "Couture", in which she plays an American film director attending Paris Fashion Week to shoot a fashion event while she is given a serious medical diagnosis and is in the midst of a divorce.

The drama, directed by French filmmaker Alice Winocour, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, where Jolie told reporters how filming the diagnosis part of the movie was emotional and led to conversations about loss.
