A large plume of smoke was seen rising above the southwest Iranian city of Ahvaz early on Thursday (July 30) amid continued hostilities between Iran and the United States.

The location was verified from the buildings, position of trees and mast which matched satellite imagery.

The date on which the video was filmed was verified from reports on Iranian state TV that several blasts were heard in Ahvaz in the morning of July 30.

No other versions were found posted online before July 30.

The governor of Khuzestan province, cited by Iranian state media, said two student dormitory complexes in Ahvaz were damaged in overnight attacks.

The war began in February, when the U.S. and Israel launched a bombing campaign in Iran that President Donald Trump said would last only a few weeks. A temporary ceasefire agreement in June collapsed amid renewed fighting over the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway that Iran says it now controls.
