J041-GAZA VIDEL ONU DISPAROS DURANTE EL REPARTO DE AYUDA
STORY: Video released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Wednesday (July 30) showed gunshots being fired as Palestinians gathered, waiting for food aid.
In the video, OCHA said it was Israeli gunfire - Reuters could not independently verify who was firing the gunshots.
Olga Cherevko from OCHA said "tens of thousands of hungry and desperate people" were waiting, seen by the UN vehicles once they were granted passage through Israeli forces check points. Cherevko said one of the constraints the UN agency faced in delivering the aid was a wait of more than two hours at the check point.
In the video, crowds of Palestinians could be seen crouched and waiting before rushing towards the UN vehicles as they arrived.
With the international furore over Gaza's ordeal growing, Israel announced steps over the weekend to ease aid access. But the U.N. World Food Programme said on Tuesday (July 29) it was not getting the permissions it needed to deliver enough aid since Israel began humanitarian pauses in warfare on Sunday (July 27).
Gaza health authorities have been reporting more and more people dying from hunger-related causes. The total stands at 147, among them 88 children, most of whom died in the last few weeks.
Images of emaciated Palestinian children have shocked the world, with Israel's strongest ally Trump declaring that many people were starving.
Israel has denied pursuing a policy of starvation. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said on Tuesday (July 29) that the situation in Gaza was "tough" but there were lies about starvation there.

2. (SOUNDBITE) (English) OLGA CHEREVKO FROM THE UN OFFICE FOR THE COORDINATION OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS, SAYING (SOUNDBITE IS OVERLAID WITH IMAGES FROM SHOTS 1 AND 3):
"Today we went on a mission to pick up food supplies from Kerem Shalom. One of the constraints that we faced was waiting about 2.5 hours at an Israeli forces check point which by the time we were allowed to pass, we were met on the road by tens of thousands of hungry and desperate people who directly offloaded everything from the backs of our trucks. Another constraint that we're facing is the very limited time to load the cargo and so we are unable to secure it properly with belts or tarps which makes it very easily fall off from the backs of the trucks as the roads are quite rough and sometimes we have to drive at quite high speeds. So these constraints have to be addressed. Access must be expanded, much more food needs to be entering on a regular basis so the communities have the confidence that supplies are coming and that they will be receiving them and that they will be distributed properly."
