STORY: Eyewitness video released on Thursday (March 5) showed several explosions hitting the Iranian city of Sanandaj, with flames and black smoke billowing over the skyline, amid a joint U.S.-Israeli military operation.

The social media footage, verified by Reuters, captured the moment several blasts struck the Kurdish city at night, sending clouds of black smoke rising into the air.

Reuters confirmed the location from the utility pole, road layout, buildings and barrier, which matched satellite imagery of the area. Reuters was unable to verify the exact time the video was filmed, but no earlier version of the video was found posted online before March 5.

Local media reported that explosions were heard in Sanandaj early Thursday morning.
