A woman wailed as rescuers carried the body of her grandson from a missile-damaged apartment block in Kyiv on Thursday (August 20) after a Russian ballistic missile attack killed at least eight people and injured more than two dozen others, Ukrainian authorities said.

Before the body was brought from the building, the woman spoke with a neighbour, identifying the victim as her grandson and saying relatives had been in contact with him.

Moments later, rescuers carried the body out on a stretcher as the woman followed behind. She stood beside the body after it was placed on the ground, crying out in grief before medics moved in to support her.
