A high-speed police chase through Southern California on Wednesday (April 8) ended when sheriff’s deputies deployed a "grappler" device, sending the vehicle crashing into a home in Jurupa Valley, local media reported.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the crash scene, according to ABC affiliate KABC.

Aerial footage from KABC showed the suspect’s car swerving out of control moments after the failed deployment before slamming into a concrete wall.

Authorities said the chase lasted nearly an hour and was followed by a lengthy standoff before deputies pulled the suspect from the vehicle and pronounced him dead.
