U.S. President Donald Trump visited Beijing's Temple of Heaven on Thursday (May 14) with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping as part of an official visit.

"Great place. Incredible. China’s beautiful," Trump said, after a reporter asked him how talks with Xi had gone earlier in the day.

After an opening ceremony that featured an honour guard and throngs of children excitedly waving flowers and flags, Xi opened their bilateral summit by telling Trump that stable relations between the world's two biggest economies benefit the entire world.

The Chinese leader also told Trump that Taiwan was the most important issue in U.S.-China relations and if handled poorly could lead to conflict and an extremely dangerous situation, according to the Chinese readout of the talks, which concluded after a little over two hours.
