J007-BAHAMAS VISISTA REY CARLOS DE INGLATERRA

King Charles met with government officials of The Bahamas as part of his Caribbean tour ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda on November 1.

Charles was received by Prime Minister Philip Davis, Governor-General Of The Bahamas, Dame Cynthia Pratt, and other dignitaries at the Government House in Nassau. Charles also paid a visit to a boxing academy in the capital’s sports complex.

Charles' visit comes against the backdrop of increasingly vocal demands from the region that Britain pays reparations for its role in the slave trade.

Speaking at the start of the tour, Charles on Tuesday (October 27) acknowledged the injustices of slavery, saying Commonwealth leaders would discuss the issue at their summit next week. He added that it was "only right" to acknowledge "the great suffering and injustices of the past in these islands and beyond."

The biennial summit of the 56-nation Commonwealth, most of whose members are former British colonies, expect Caribbean leaders to press demands for reparations for slavery and colonialism.
