STORY: Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders said he was disappointed about his Freedom Party's result in Wednesday's election (October 29) and would likely not be part of the next government if the centrist D66 was confirmed as winner.

"We might still come out on top," Wilders said after exit polls indicated his party would fall to 25 seats, with D66 at 27. The exit poll has an error margin of up to three seats.

As election winner, D66-leader Rob Jetten would take the lead in the government formation, which would likely rule out the PVV, Wilders said.

"He will find a strong opposition party against him," he added.

2. (SOUNDBITE) (Dutch) DUTCH FREEDOM PARTY LEADER, GEERT WILDERS, SAYING:

"Personally, I would have liked to see a different result. However, we are still the second largest party, and perhaps even the largest. We will have to wait and see. It is now neck and neck between us and D66 as to who will be the largest party. We have not seen the final results yet, but of course I would have preferred 30 or more seats. On the other hand, we have stood our ground. As you know, we left the cabinet because we felt that the agreements had not been fulfilled. I don't regret that decision; I knew it could have this consequence, but we are ready to fight. We have achieved the second-best result ever with 25 seats, and hopefully more will be added so that we can make our voice heard in the House."

4. (SOUNDBITE) (Dutch) DUTCH FREEDOM PARTY LEADER, GEERT WILDERS, SAYING:

"Of course not if we are the second party (we can't be in charge of the formation process), because it will then go to D66. To be honest, we will probably not be involved in that process."

JOURNALIST: "Do you think you can achieve anything in the formation process? What if you are the largest party?"

WILDERS: "We're going to try in any case. That's the privilege of being the largest party, so we'll see if it works out. For now, it's not an issue because, according to the exit poll, we're the second party, not the first."

6. (SOUNDBITE) (Dutch) DUTCH FREEDOM PARTY LEADER, GEERT WILDERS, SAYING (ANSWERING TO THE QUESTION "What would you expect if Mr Jetten became Prime Minister of the Netherlands? Which scenario do you think is most likely?"):

"If that happens, he will at least have a very large and strong opposition party to contend with because we disagree with almost everything he says. But we're not there yet, are we? We're only talking about exit polls at this stage. It's very close. If D66 loses one seat and we gain one, the result could go either way."
