STORY: Gunfire was heard as a U.S. immigration agent shot and killed a woman in her car in Minneapolis during an immigration enforcement surge, in eyewitness footage filmed on Wednesday (January 7).

Kristi Noem, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, told a news conference that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers were responding to a vehicle stuck in the snow when they were harassed by a "mob of agitators".

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey adamantly rejected the Trump administration's assertion that the agent fired in self-defense, saying video of the shooting directly contradicted what he called the government's "garbage narrative".

Reuters confirmed the location from the buildings and road layout seen in the video, which matched file and satellite imagery. The date the video was filmed was verified by official and media reports and corroborating videos.
