J006-CUBA HOSPITAL HERIDOS LANCHA
STORY: Reuters video showed exterior shots of the provincial clinical and surgical hospital Arnaldo Milina Castro in Santa Clara, in central Cuba, where people injured in a speedboat incident were taken after entering Cuban waters on Wednesday (February 25).
The footage captured the hospital's emergency entrance and people outside the building. According to information provided by hospital security personnel to Reuters, the wounded in the incident were being treated in one of the hospital's wards.
Cuba's government said Cuban forces killed four exiles and wounded six others after the group arrived in Cuban waters aboard a Florida-registered speedboat and opened fire on a Cuban patrol, in an episode that comes amid heightened tensions between Cuba and the United States.
In a statement, Cuba's Interior Ministry said the group consisted of anti-government Cubans, including some previously wanted in connection with alleged attack plots. The ministry said they traveled from the United States wearing camouflage and were armed with assault rifles, handguns, homemade explosives, ballistic vests and telescopic sights.
The Interior Ministry also said an additional Cuban suspect was detained inside Cuban territory in connection with the alleged plot. "According to preliminary statements from the detainees, they intended to carry out an infiltration for terrorist purposes," the ministry said.
The ministry added that the wounded were evacuated and were receiving medical attention, and that the Cuban patrol commander was also wounded.
