STORY: Eyewitness footage from a CCTV camera showed the moment floodwaters crashed into a Hong Kong restaurant on Wednesday (September 24) as a result of Super Typhoon Ragasa.
Reuters was able to independently verify the location of the video by restaurant interior design which matched file images. Reuters was able to verify the date of the footage from the timestamp on the webcam.
Huge waves crashed over areas of Hong Kong's eastern and southern shoreline on Wednesday, with widespread flooding submerging some roads and residential properties. More than 100 people were injured as authorities imposed the highest typhoon signal 10 for most of the day.
On Thursday (September 25), the Hong Kong Observatory maintained its second-lowest typhoon signal 3, keeping kindergartens and some schools shut as Ragasa moved away from the city and weakened into a tropical storm.
