Eyewitness footage on Thursday (May 28) captured the moment of an Israeli strike on suspected Hezbollah infrastructure in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre.

The video showed a large explosion behind a building, sending a fireball into the sky before thick plumes of smoke billowed upward and formed a mushroom cloud.

Reuters confirmed the location from road layout, buildings and trees which matched file and satellite images. Corroborating videos show smoke rising from the same location. The date of the footage was verified by IDF statement of the attack on Tyre. The Israeli military also said on Thursday morning that it has begun striking Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon’s Tyre. Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee had earlier warned of attacks on several locations in Tyre.

Israel's military on Wednesday (May 27) declared a new swathe of southern Lebanon as a combat zone and said residents in the area should move north, warning it would act "with great force" against Lebanese armed group Hezbollah in the zone.

The military's statement, posted on X, appeared to signal further escalation after more than 120 strikes on Tuesday (May 26) hit Lebanon's south and east, despite a ceasefire announced on April 16.
