Hundreds of mourners in Sydney's Bondi Beach gathered on Thursday (December 18) at a candlelight tribute and vigil for the 15 victims of the deadly Bondi shooting.

The mourners sang Jewish songs and popular Australian ballad "Waltzing Matilda", while waving lights on their phones in the air after sunset.

Members of the community lit a menorah decorated with a cardboard bee, dedicated to the attack's youngest victim, Matilda, who was killed at ten-years-old.

"The Jewish people, you are so incredible. Don't ever let evil beat you," Australian Olympian and former senator Nova Peris said in a speech during the vigil.

The alleged father-and-son gunmen opened fire as hundreds of people celebrated Hanukkah on Sydney's famous Bondi Beach on Sunday (December 14). The attack, which shocked the nation and led to fears over rising antisemitism, appears to have been inspired by the Islamic State, authorities say.
