D609-TOGO PROTESTAS CONTRA EL PRESIDENTE
STORY: Protests in Togo entered a third day on Saturday (June 28) as demonstrators continued to demand the resignation of President Faure Gnassingbe, whose family has ruled the West African nation since 1967.
The unrest, which began on Thursday, was sparked by Gnassingbe's recent appointment to the powerful role of President of the Council of Ministers, which has no fixed term limit.
Security forces used tear gas and batons to disperse crowds blocking roads in the capital Lome, witnesses said. Some protesters burned tires and furniture for barricades in suburban areas.
Dozens have been arrested, according to Amnesty International.
