STORY: At least 43 people, including 15 children, have been confirmed dead following flash floods in central Texas, authorities said on Saturday (July 5) as rescuers continued a frantic search for dozens more campers, vacationers and residents who were still missing.

Near Camp Mystic, an all-girls camp where 27 campers were reportedly still missing Saturday night following raging floodwaters, crews were working to clear debris as police and volunteers searched for bodies.

The summer camp had 700 girls in residence at the time of the flood, according to Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.

Founded by a University of Texas football coach, Camp Mystic was established along the banks of the Guadalupe River in central Texas hill country nearly a century ago "to provide young girls with a wholesome Christian atmosphere."
