D607-PAKISTAN MUERTOS TORMENTA DE ARENA
At least eight people died and 45 others were injured as a dust storm followed by rains lashed parts of Pakistan’s Punjab province on Saturday (May 24), the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said in a press release.
The deaths were attributed to houses collapsing and people being in unsafe places. Some homes were also damaged, the release said.
In Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, trees and solar panels were damaged. The PDMA urged residents not to leave their homes.
The storm followed a heatwave that continued through the week in parts of Pakistan. Pakistan's meteorological department had predicted a dust storm and thundershowers for the day.
