STORY: Tensions in Chicago escalated on Saturday evening as police on foot and on bike formed lines to contain a small crowd of "No Kings" rally participants, who wanted to continue marching through downtown streets.

Police jostled with a vocal protester before both sides eventually backed down.

The tensions capped a largely festive gathering of thousands at Chicago’s Daley Plaza and the surrounding area on Saturday.

Police stood watch around the perimeter of the crowd, but the massive gathering remained peaceful.

A two-mile march snarled traffic on Chicago’s downtown streets, with salt trucks blocking intersections to steer walkers away from Trump Tower and adjoining streets.
