The Colombian Navy announced on Saturday (May 24) the seizure of more than six metric tons of cocaine chloral hydrate in an operation in Tumaco, on Colombia’s western coast near the border with Ecuador.

Rear Admiral Camilo Mauricio Gutierrez, commander of Colombia’s Pacific Naval Force, valued the drugs – recovered in a two-day operation – at more than $300 million.

Half of the seizure came from a semi-submersible vessel detected off the coast. Three Ecuadorean suspects on board were detained.

The rest of the illegal material was discovered buried underground.
